Seeing the Invisible - Women's Event June 2013

Friday, 21 June, 2013 - 8:40 am

This past Monday, June 17, women gathered at the Chabad Center for the 5th in the series of "Judaism Through The Senses" - with the focus this time on SEEING.

The evening began with the usual refreshments and shmoozing.  What are the connections from the sense of SIGHT to Judaism?  As the women were learning about the blessings over special sightings, 2 women walked in all excited about the rainbow that they had just seen outside.  The timing was amazing since the women had just read the word "rainbow" from the source sheet.

After some more learning and discussion, the special guest presenter was introduced.  Michele Gultove, local glass artist wowed the women with her fascinating presentation on the history of glass making including the historical Jewish connection.

The highlight of the evening was when the group of women went into another room where Michele's "heliozephyr" glass creations were all set up.  Lights in the room were turned off.  Then the women experienced something magical and Photospectacular.  With flashights in hand shining on the various uniquely designed glass objects, reflections and shadows of stunning colors were bouncing on the walls and ceilings above, and on the table below .

As the evening was winding down, one of the women mentioned that she would be visiting a friend the next morning who has breast cancer.  Michele took one of her beautiful and valuable glass creations - a fish -Photo and asked that it be passed along to the friend as a gift.

The evening with Michele Gutlove was a gift.  Michele has recently been commissioned for special projects to quite a few states around the country - to enhance a university, a hospital, a firestation and other public facilities.  Michele attributes her success to one of her ealier projects - the stunning Wall of Reflection which she designed, created and installed at the Mei Menachem Western Well Mikvah in Natick.  Of course we feel blessed for our connection with Michele Gultove, a uniquely talented artist and wonderful person.
