A phenomenal event featuring various workshops and stations empowering Jewish womanhood was held Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Chabad Center in Natick. Dena Judah shares... This past Sunday, I was privileged to witness something special.  I experienced  a group of more than fifty women joining together to create an environment where women could take time  for themselves, whether it was their spiritual lives, their physical bodies  and the beauty that results from  a sense of well being. This was the program at the Chabad center of Natick, called Spa for Beauty, Body and Soul. The extraordinary thing was that many of these women did not know each other, and yet the feeling of friendship, support and acceptance was so strong and meaningful. Naturally this happened because of the great planning that was invested into this program,  The many experiences from rebounding , to massage, practical and relevant workshops, and a great inspiring speaker combined to allow each woman to take away what she needed from the days activities.   The greatest insight about this program was that it identified a very strong need  in womens lives, and filled it. I see this need as a desire to create a community of women, where we talk about our lives, in open  supportive enviroments and together learn strategies  to strengthen ourselves , whether spiritually, physically and emotionally, so that we can become more of who we want to be, fulfilling  our greatest potential . My hope is that through the future activities of the Chabad Center, we can continue to serve these needs, explore and examine our lives and grow them so that we all move from strength to strength.

Linda Cohen shares...  The Woman’s Spa was a wonderful enriching and spiritual experience.  It was a lovely morning with stimulating, educational, and enlightening speakers.  I especially enjoyed listening to Bronya Shaffer, the key note speaker.  She captivated the audience with her stories and message of being a “light” onto others.  The lunch was delicious and I’m looking forward to trying out some of the home made soups and salads with my family.

Recap on the Joan Hill's Nutrition workshop:   “Nutrition Empowerment for the Body and Soul”, a workshop focusing on nourishing ourselves so that we can give more to our family and community, was held at the Chabad Center in Natick, on Sunday November 20, 2011.   20+ attendees to the workshop participated in answering the question: why do women put themselves last, when it comes to taking care of themselves, and how can they strategize to help improve their risk for developing disease. Using a tool to assess their nutritional status, they determined if there needed to be an appointment made with a dietitian in the community. Working with Joan Hill, Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator and Licensed Dietitian and Nutritionist, they learned basic nutrition concepts such as what macro and micro nutrients are and how to improve the quality of their diet. They explored how to set a realistic goal, with eating nutrient dense foods, of which they ate for their buffet lunch! Joan used the new myPlate from the US Dept of Agriculture to help convey the concepts on how to build a healthy meal. If you would like to see a copy of the materials used at the presentation, please find them at the following website: www.myplate.gov

After the workshop Joan was available for an individual consultation, addressing personal issues as it pertained to nutrition and wellness.

To find an RD in your community, go to www.eatright.org and type in your zip code.

Reviews were excellent in that the participants were pleased with the overall programming for the day. They want more, so stay tuned for the Next Annual Spa and Wellness program.
