Money can’t buy meaning but it can create the place that lights the way
Our Chanukah Campaign is LIVE because money can’t buy meaning, but it can create the place that lights the way.
Right now, every single dollar you give to Chabad Natick will be matched dollar-for-dollar by generous supporters in our community.
Your $180 becomes $360. Your $500 becomes $1,000. Your $1,800 becomes $3,600.
We'd be honored if you'd partner with us. Here's why this matters.
"I'm a Christian. I don't want to be a Jew."
I heard this from a 7-year-old girl in our after-school program.
I was glad she felt comfortable enough to share that with me. I'm sure part of her wanted to see my reaction.
But I also understood where it was coming from. She didn't want to be the odd one out at school or around her peers.
And perhaps most importantly, she didn't know enough yet to care for her Jewish identity.
Seven years old, and already convinced she's better off not being Jewish.
It didn't happen overnight…
But slowly, over the course of the year, I watched her build her Jewish identity.
I saw her light up as she mastered new Hebrew letters.
I watched her make challah, sing Jewish songs at the top of her lungs, and make her first Jewish friends.
And then, just recently, I overheard, "We're celebrating Chanukah. I love Chanukah!"
Here's what I've learned over 35 years of serving the Natick Jewish community:
For Jewish people of all ages to be proud of who they are, to celebrate their identity and heritage, and to feel like a part of an unbroken chain stretching back thousands of years?
There's only one way to make it happen.
They need to experience it.
They could look outside and hear that being Jewish is something to minimize, or even a problematic identity.
Or they can experience the meaning, warmth, traditions, and values, and decide for themselves what being Jewish means.
We’ve always been a tiny minority.
Our survival isn’t an accident.
The Jewish people are here because we invest in building, strengthening, learning, and celebrating.
Money can't buy Jewish pride, but it can give our kids a place to discover it.
Your donation will help create thousands of opportunities for children, teens, adults, and seniors across the Metrowest to experience their traditions and celebrate their identity.
A gift of any amount is so important because somewhere out there is a child who doesn't know that being Jewish is something to celebrate.
Yet.
With gratitude,
Rabbi Levi & Chanie Fogelman
