Another fantastic week... hunts, crafting, field trip to the farm, challah making... Karate, maker space, GEO scientist discovering how honey is made and so much more. Also GEO students are partnering to help the IDF in an STEM Project - more exciting details on that to come. Here are more highlights from each day.
Monday with Morah Hadassah: Where do Super Jews get their power from? The One who created the whole world and universe out of nothing. Hashem G-d, who also gave us Mitzvot, special good missions to do. The kids did a Mitzvah hunt around the room and brainstormed some more to earn their capes.
Can we create something from nothing? No, we need and can use all kinds of materials (and have fun with them). The kids enjoyed a ‘reveal the picture from a blank page’ activity, created their own - using baking soda and turmeric - it was really cool! They also built lots of structures. Some also wrote or drew picture about how Hashem is also like a parent who keeps us safe and takes care of us.
Tuesday is when the kids could choose which station to go to. In one, with Morah Elana, students began to build an apple and honey tray using different wood pieces. In the other station with Morah Hadassah and Morah Batya, they made an apple in the cup toy and worked on their own creations in a Maker Space type setup.
Wednesday was early release day and we got to enjoy an fun trip to the Natick Organic Farm. Of course everyone enjoyed the animals. We also got to walk the trail there and to play some nature based games. And then, after we arrived back and had snack, there was a whole bunch of activities where the kids joined the Bereishit crew to figure out how the world was created, in stages. First station: Nothing. 2nd/Day 1: Separating the light from darkness (scratch and reveal), 3rd/Day 2: Separating the upper and lower waters (Clear and blue/green Orbeez) "that was so satisfying" is what the kids were saying, 4th/Day 3: the earth comes out of the water and plant life appears (leaf rubbings), 5th/Day 4: planets (lots of different colors of play dough to create planets in space), 6th/Day 5: birds and fish out of beads and feathers, 7th//Day 6: animals out of pipe cleaners… to be continued.
Thursday we made the yummiest Challah! And Karate! Also...
Thursday with Morah Elana: Torah scholars participated in movement activities which incorporated conversations about Ahavat Yisrael. They then had time to make their own creations with popsicle sticks.
Thursday with Morah Hadassah: Message from Supraland: thinking about flowers and sweet things in anticipation of the Rosh Hashanah holiday. How is honey made? GEO scientists made syringe - bees (who don’t want to sting anyone), who could fly and collect nectar to bring back to their beehives. It takes a long time to fill up the whole hive with honey.
