Another awesome week at GEO Jewish Afterschool!!! Another birthday celebrated, first day of robotics, karate again, Aleph Champs moving ahead, and so much more. See here for some more highlights of each day.
Monday with Morah Hadassah: What a super day introducing the Super Year of becoming Super Jews. Unlike other superheroes our superpowers are unique. We are given special powers from Hashem and things to do to help others and bring more light to the world. Each week the kids kids will learn about different powers and add badges to their Super Jew Capes. They had fun making super hero masks and arm cuffs.
Monday with Morah Batya: Introducing the lighthouse curriculum... The kids made led mitzvah circuits and then used special glasses that revealed the light in a very cool way. In this creative way they learned about how everything is created by Hashem and how you can find the light in all creations.
Tuesday were the elective stations: At one station, the children had fun exploding their sparkly moon rocks from last week and playing with moon dough. At the other station, the kids got to decorate and finish the clay honey bowls which they had formed last week.
Wednesday Robotics: The kids were so excited to meet the robotics team. With the gears and wheels and construction parts, there was so much tech learning going on. Everyone also got their "brain" - the mechanism that will drive what they create.
Wednesday with Morah Hadassah: The children painted their wooden shafts to prepare for their own Torah scrolls of the story of Bereishit - from the beginning.
Wednesday with Morah Batya: The older group enjoyed getting started on tefilla journals. They can't wait to continue next Wednesday. They also were introduced to the JewQ curriculum and got their "you're a smart cookie" treats.
We also had a special visitor on Wednesday, Morah Orly, who taught the middle group about the values of reduce, re-use, and recycle - and they created an adorable large doll out of "trash" materials.
Thursday Karate and Challah: Another fun session of kicks, punches, and safety moves. It was so nice to see how patiently the kids waited on line for their turns. At the other table in the open room, kids got to make their Challah!
Thursday with Morah Hadassah and Morah Batya: GEO scientists went on a scavenger hunt to find many different items outside to be classified into different categories. A beautiful day and extra imagination made the items to be used in all kinds of other ways. Also some flower painting - how would we look as a plant and how are we different?
Thursday with Morah Elana: Torahpedia scholars were introduced to the mitzvah of Ahavat Yisrael and through a puzzle and popsicle stick activity explored the idea of being part of a community. They learned a poem about loving others and created a craft to demonstrate their understanding of their meaning. Students received their workbooks and had so much fun decorating the inside cover!
